The digital landscape in New Zealand has changed more in the last 12 months than in the previous decade combined. You may have seen news about “AI Search,” Google’s “Helpful Content Update,” and/or the increasing volatility in search results. The “Zero-Click” era entered a new phase with the widespread adoption of AI-driven search (AI Overviews) in 2024–2025, marking a shift where most user queries are now answered without a click-through to an external website. These are major changes indeed, requiring new strategies to thrive.

The Era of “Fix It Now & Rely on it for Years”
For many years, the industry standard was the “Audit and Fix” model. We would tune up your website’s platform, optimise for the most keyword phrases across pages, and things would run smoothly for 3 to 5 years, until Google moved the goalposts and a fresh approach was needed. That formula served us well, but frankly, it is no longer sufficient to guarantee results.
Google’s new algorithms are more inclined to view websites as “living entities.” They may actively penalise sites that appear stagnant, technically outdated, or dormant.
Translated, most previously “stable and well established” websites are going to need to do some spring cleaning and do the following:
- Review all pages for technical issues, and eliminate them, including over-optimisation from previous SEO efforts, such as potential over-use of keywords, and ensuring that all pages focus on delivering “helpful content” rather than Google rankings.
- Review the About Us page in light of the E.E.A.T. (experience, expertise, authority and trust signals) AND convey that within page content where possible.
- Implement accurate local business schema data on Home, About and Contact pages.
- Don’t build links that will either be worthless or penalised! Instead, build citation links that will help underpin your local search rankings.
- Ensure products and services are using the correct schema data.
Introducing: The Managed Growth Partner Model
To ensure my clients don’t just survive but thrive in this new environment, The SEO Guy is now offering more than the previous “project-based” SEO model. I still have good options for Local Business SEO, and for Service Area businesses. However, the Managed SEO & Maintenance Partnership is more of a complete insurance and growth policy for your digital assets.
What This Means For You:
Instead of paying lump sums for periodic overhauls, we are offering a smooth, predictable monthly investment option. This ensures your site is always optimised, always secure, and always growing.
The “Growth & Authority” Partnership includes:
- Complete WordPress Management: Updates, security, backups, and speed optimisation handled daily.
- Continuous SEO Adaptation: We adapt keywords monthly based on competitor moves.
- New Content Creation: We produce high-quality, authentic content to prove your expertise.
- Local Dominance: We actively manage your Google Maps profile and NZ citations.

However, if you have already invested in the foundational SEO work with me, I want to honour that relationship.
